"...Still I appreciate Saba’s contribution to Ethiopia’s art in diaspora:"

Thanks E!

See the link below to view one of Saba's works...

“African dances including belly dancing”

Interesting didn’t know it originated in Afrika maybe that’s the problem

Tsegure,

Yes, it originated in Africa, Northern Africa-Egypt, Morocco- the orientals. Anyway... what is the problem again? I didn't get that part.

Mamo, okay dude, whatever you say.

Based on your response to my comment and the things you wrote earlier, including the ff:

"Ya, you can’t say anything because what I said was right and you didn’t like it. Chances are, you are one of those confused wanna be ‘fernjis’."

it seems you can argue over anything to prove that "you are always right." So there is no point wasting my time with you, buddy.

You are one of those people born to understand nothing about constructive criticism.

So go ahead and BS anything you want. This is just a "blog" after all.

Still I appreciate Saba's contribution to Ethiopia's art in diaspora:

E,
My replies to your comments:
“You gotta appreciate these young artists”

Looks like an order from E. Is it a must to appreciate?

“Mamo, if you don’t like what they do just keep it to yourself. Why are you imposing your dislike on some of us who might enjoy their art regardless of the flaws? “

Well, another order from E. What if I tell you the same thing? If you LIKE what they do just keep it to yourself. Why are you imposing your ADMIRATION on some of us who might NOT enjoy their art with all the flaws?

“I remember, a while ago someone wrote a piece on Gosaye (i think Addis Journal that is), and soon people were busy commenting how Teddy’s the best and making all other stupid comments that are not related to Gosaye whatsoever. The blog about Gosaye turned out to be Teddy’s in the end, which was so unfortunate and disturbing. Some people either don’t know what to say when or are full of themselves. Here again similar thing is happening. The blog is about Saba but some of the comments are about Kebede and Abede. What is wrong with some people? Just because you don’t like something it does not mean others feel the same way. Why can’t you acknowledge that some of us appreciate what this girl is doing. “

I think this was all crap. It was a little hard for me to understand what you were trying to say. This all paragraph has nothing to do with your other points or with this Sabina issue. If you were trying to mention that some “full of themselves” people's comments are usually unrelated to the main subject then what do you think you were doing yourself? Teddy and Gosay have nothing to do with Sabina. By the way, what is the problem if people talk about unrelated things? After all this is just a blog, people don’t have to be instructed what to write and what not to write. If you have something to argue or agree with them, then go ahead. Who are you after all to tell somebody what to write and not to write? This is a place where we should be communicating different ideas; it is not some kind of regulated office logbook.

“To be honest with you, Mamo especially, I actually don’t like Jay Z’s music (who apparently seems one of your musical gods). However, would it be nice if I come and tell you again and again how I think Jay Z’s music is crap compared to Bob Marley? Would that make you feel happy? I guess not. I am sure Jay Z has his own style, so does Bob Marley. And they both deserve appreciation for whatever they do individualy. If you can’t appreciate then just leave it that way. Stop attacking people just because they don’t think like you.”

I don’t really care if you are honest with me or not, I just read your comments. Ok, you don’t like Jay Z...that is fine with me. I completely agree with you at this point, it is your interest. The problem is though; I didn’t say he is my musical god or whatever. My point was, if I want rap music then I would go with the real ones. Funny thing, you tried to compare Bob Marley and Jay z… it is like to compare Tiger with Kobe. Well, did I say Sabina has to think like me? By the way, I just gave my comment…it is not attacking. The thing is, you have no idea that comments should not always be appreciations.

Hating and being negative among Abesha people is not something new.I guess it makes them feel important or better than the person they are hating on most probably envious about.I have seen similar comments about Zeritu and Abby. Lighten up people it is not always about you.

...Let me just say that Saba is a really really great dancer. She does a variety of African dances including bellydancing. She's so good that she teaches classes and performs at a lot of cultural events (African and others) all around town. And as to how "girls in Addis would take her to school", to tell you the truth, dancing involves a lot more than the ability to shake one's ass...which is ALL I've been seeing in Ethiopian-made music videos for....quite some time. I have no personal connection with Saba, so my views could not be more unbiased.

You gotta appreciate these young artists.

Mamo, if you don't like what they do just keep it to yourself. Why are you imposing your dislike on some of us who might enjoy their art regardless of the flaws?

To be honest with you, Mamo especially, I actually don't like Jay Z's music (who apparently seems one of your musical gods). Anyway, I am loving this re-mix:

the choreography is nice. the music video is awesome. and I think one of the female dancers is Saba. She is good. (I wonder how Aster would react to this one :)).

Mamo, if you don’t like what they do just keep it to yourself. Why are you imposing your dislike on some of us who might enjoy their art regardless of the flaws?

I remember, a while ago someone wrote a piece on Gosaye (i think Addis Journal that is), and soon people were busy commenting how Teddy’s the best and making all other stupid comments that are not related to Gosaye whatsoever.

To be honest with you, Mamo especially, I actually don’t like Jay Z’s music (who apparently seems one of your musical gods). But would it be nice if I come and tell you again and again how I think Jay Z’s music is crap compared to Bob Marley? Would that make you feel happy? I guess not. I am sure Jay Z has his own style, so does Bob Marley. And they both deserve appreciation for whatever they do individualy. If you can’t appreciate then just leave it that way. Stop attacking people just because they don’t think like you.

Anyway, I am loving this re-mix:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPcT5irmBtE

the choreography is nice. the music video is awesome. and I think one of the female dancers is Saba. She is good. (I wonder how Aster would react to this one ).

masinkomelody,

There is no one tuxedo made by 'ye shero meda shemane' on earth. Hard to see how they rock?! I completely agree when it comes to our culteral clothes, they really are good at it...at least upto now. Who knows what will come next, we may see some 'netela and gabis' made by china.

Look the post is about Saba not her brother or sister.. so stop hating peoples. Saba is know for her dance and maybe people in Ethiopia dance better than her but that is not the point.. point is she is doing it here and doing it well, she is promoting the culture and has built a successful business out of it.. so it is something to congratulate and encourage her.. It's good to keep it real but some encouragement my people goes along way.. geez!!
