She was in my dream

ethiopian table cloth

It was no surprise that I would dream of a person I had seen only twice. Magical moments and surprise stunners of beauty and kind hearts are meant to be dreamt.

So this time, I had dreamt of a beautiful lady whom I’ve fancied quite a bit. I still remember the very first moment I saw her. It was around 6 months ago in the hot summer of 2007 at a casual friends’ BBQ gatherings. She was a new face to all of us; and fairly a new comer to the western culture. But not new enough to feel out of place.

I remember the first time I noticed her laughing. She laughes as if it’s the last time she will ever laugh again, and she smiles everytime she talks and listens. I was mesmerized and caught in between wonders of where this young beautiful creature had fallen from.

Fast forward…six months later…,

I was exhausted, beat up and eagerly in the mood for a good night sleep when I suddenly heard of a mobile phone ring. It was mine; therefore, I must pick it up.

Tiredly, I reached out to the phone, my voice barely able to come out of its sac:

Hello…,
Hi, she said.

Hearing her voice from a mile away put a simple & sincerely-humble smile all over my face.
Hi, I said softly…

But dreams have a strange way of taking from places to places within a lightening speed”

Next thing I know, I’m in my car idle outside her apartment, and this stunningly beautiful lady is walking to enter.

There you are, I said, and opened the door… kissed her on her nose…closed the door, and walked around the back of the car and entered through the driver side.

Wooy, Betam Neaw Yerabegn, she said.

I know just what you need I replied….

But then somehow, I couldn’t help but admire her beauty. She was wearing a tight jeans and a short sleeved pink sweater. Fluffing her hair lightly on her upper shoulders, she put on a sunglass.

You look amazingly beautiful, I said to her.
Oh thanks! She smiled. But I kept looking at her … “girl you amaze me!” said it only in silence. Strange!! I buckled my seat belt soon after I buckled hers.

Dreams don’t give us warnings when hopping from one location to the other, they just happen when they do”

But now, we’re sitting with our back against a concrete that prevented the beach sand from escaping to the streets. Ocean breeze lightly running cool on both our face, and our toes buried in the sand, I began to feed her of a food that was most dearly to the both of us. Injera! I would take a small portion, dip into every stew, grab a few of the veggies and kindly put it into her mouth.

I could certainly tell she was hungry, so I didn’t hold anything back….

I fed her, and fed her and fed her and fed her more….

But the stupid alarm cranked up the FM radio in my bedroom and woke me out of my heavenly heaven.

I was happy, yet mad. I wished to dream it again.

Dedicated to the girl I see in shooting stars!”

And I know its a dream and everything but for me there is something un romantic about Injera.

I am glad you are back though .

Chelema: Solid attempt, but the senses were not tantalized! I guess that’s Ethio romance for you - no matter where it takes place (in real life or in la la land), we seem restrained some how. Even w/ all the “gurshas“, one is often left unfulfilled. I wonder why? Anyhow, at least you wrote something & nothing wrong w/ that. Good try. I’m just disappointed there was no ye’kwanta firfir - as every one who has ever gone out to eat w/ an habesha girl knows, they have to order that unfortunate concoction.

Winta: How about Gen’fo? Would that have made your heart skip a beat & your body shiver all over? ha ha… Not everyone dreams of strawberries & chocolate girl… I’m sure they dream of chop-sticks in China ;) So give the Nightwalker a break & let the man have his fantasy.

BTW the “therefore” killed me… seems to be used (rather abused) a lot in Addis.

You made it again ..the Quanta firfir is really really funny …ha ha ha…Bozena shiros tebileh atawukim :) Or typical ye Habesha date take her to sidist kilo anbessa Gibi and order six bombolino with tea…I know that sound like a horror movie:)

Moving on U’R very right about therefore

Ene enkuan its not Gen’fo …I would have been crushed with Kinche :)

Gin seriously I love injera and everything but its not romantic at all …I think it must be the colour that puts me off :)

    Okey Kill me
