Something funny about reading NY and y'all used in one sentence lol. It's like being a city folk :)

Nol actually is a permanent VIP at any DCABESHA.COM events but as i had told him i didn't have any extra cards that day... i agree with the fact that the same toons were played all week long and i kinda know why, maybe it's because everyone had dj Mamush as a dj at every party... thanx for the pointer tho, we'll fix that issue next time around. As for NY clubs being well ventilated, well y'all never have a sold out crowd, your half full clubs are usually deserted :)

Aha, Avenue! I didn't even know it had 3 floors....after that long queue, we only went in coz it was too late to go anywhere else. Well, I wouldn't have waited in line but joined my friends who got to the front after waiting for so long (hmm, sometimes coming late is better)And I don't know how many DJs you have in DC (never mind 3 different DJs at Avenue, if that was the case)the whole week, the same tunes were played (okk, maybe not same order :P ) hence why I didn't realize there were three at Avenue)
Ow, another thing, I couldn't believe Nol didn't get a VIP card , kemirr, LOL, though my friend somehow got in with a VIP card...I actually asked Nol why the heck he told us to come there...Fifteen of us came there at my insistence, Because Nol said Avenue was the place.
Shifta, You said NY parties are lame....but I don't think DC ones are any better. At least NY clubs/lounge are well ventilated.

Speaking of show time, my husband and I bought our tickets online for Teddy Afro concert. It said 7PM so we decided to be fashionably late (Ethiopian style) and arrived at 8PM and waited and waited and waited... for the show to start @ 11PM. If it was not for my enthusiasm for Teddy, we would have been long gone. I don't mind waiting for an hour but 3, 4 hours? What gives? Didn't we learn the concept of time? If it starts at 11PM, then say so on the ticket. We would have used our time accordingly. I don't think this would even happen in Addis.

Didn't that happen for the D.C. Teddy Afro show??? i guess it worked once so they kept doing it... like i said in one of the comments above, some promoters switch up their company names and come back the next year.

Shifta,
celeb what makes you think they still don't do that??? trust me they still try...
Now that's sad you get scammed all around? That shows I've been out of the club scene for too long.

Well let me share one more wonderful scamming story. At the Teddy Afro concert in San Jose the wonderful HNIC decided to sell some tickets in advance and it sold out. He opened the door at 9pm instead of the printed time of 7pm. Some ticket holders showed up and got in the rest were sold tickets at the door. Around 11pm the rest of the ticket holders showed up and were told to go home because the hall had reached capacity. YES and to add insult to injury they were told no refunds because they didn't show up on time. Try this same exact scheme at an AA event and let's see how it would've turned out. Yeah Rodney King riot all over again. LOL

Problem is you guys need to start boycotting these places/events and show them who's really in charge. Cause from the sounds of everyone's comments they are taking you for a ride over, and over, and over again but you keep going back for more. So what encourages them to change? Nothing!

This is the most entertaining blog at the moment. Some of you are out right funny.

Whatever happened to the time when some Abesha clubs had free entrance but the price of the drink increased with the quantity you consumed? First two wines were $4.00/ea then 3-5 was $10.00/ea then 5-7 was $15.00/ea and so on...you may be paying 20.00 for a glass and not know it. They used to do this when you went with a big group. Those were the good ole days when you got scammed without knowing you got scammed cause you got a bill with the total hand written. So no break down to know what the charge was for. See they should've kept that up instead of trying to switch to the "in your face" scamming. LOL. (btw: this is not an encouragement to scam)

Money Mek,

ANyways One more thing, all you bastards need to fucking dance, when you go to these parties.

hahahahaha Thanks for the good laugh. I'm still laughing at the above comment. hahahahah

I went to this ethio restaurant with my sisters ,One of them just came from addis at that time ,and we had this terrible service ,waiting to be waited and after we ordered it took an hour and half ,even that it was okay if the restaurant was busy but it wasn't and the waitress was very nasty non apologetic ,anyways my sister turns around and stated oh I miss home even the service in dc is like addis(at least in addis there not nasty but they can work on their customer service ) .we just laughed off and many incidents occurred .so don't give me that we abeshotch want more, yeah don't take advantage of us if you do give a good service.

Shifta, your response makes more sense to me now, and that even made Kebede's generalization more understandable for some reason . . . I do see you point, but I am sure the issue is more complicated than just abeshas feeling inferior (which is normally not a trait associated with our ppl. if anything, we are suppose to have a superior complex, right?!?) . . . the thing is, you have to compare apples to apples. maybe the abesha joint ppl are complaining about is one that is just not well organized , and some abeshas bitch about that and would seem fine with a non-abesha place that is honstly "better" . . . not cause it is non-abehsa, but just because it is just a better place. you need to compare a shitty abesha night/palce to a shitty non-abesha night/place, and a classy abesha place/night to a classy non-abesha place/night . . . and see if there truly is a difference in how ppl react.

kebede,

it is not cuz they are habeshas bro. it is cuz some of them are sleaze balls, and they don't even know the business. they are just in the business for the $$ only. you damn right i will go to non-habesha club, not cuz we want to be different, but cuz most of are good.

i would rather go to avenue and pay more and enjoy myself than go to scammers who have no clue :) am not saying all habesha clubs are bad.

only time i go to hebesha places is either during new year's eve or on special occassion when there a live band or concert i don't wanna miss...... or i am bored out of mind and have no where to go :) and i and my friends just go for laughs.

trust me, if they are good at what they do we will all go to our own habesha clubs.

There we go with the generalizations again . . . have you conducted an experiment where you have taken a reasonable amout of sample from the abesha population . . . taken them to an abesha club . . . found them to bitch about paying cover . . . then taken them to a "comperable" place which is non-abesha and found them to pay willingly? Now have you done a similar experiment with a Ferenge, asian (Ayne-tebab), latino or Tikur population and found that abeshas are more likely to complain about paying cover at their own club than they are at an establishment that is not owned/run by one of their own? Could it be the people you have been chillin with are kinda cheap/or wierd or maybe even there is the possibility that you see things that are not there?!?! as in . . . you somehow think that your friends act that way when they totally don't . . .

Mr Zico, at times i'm confused about what the real issue is here but mainly i think the complaint is in regards to abesha parties and abesha promoters... Kebede said it best we never seem to be satisfied, there's always someone complaining, sometimes for no reasonable reason. Some of us tend to look down at our own people when we are in public places and expect things we don't dare request in non-abesha places... some of it is a reflection of our society in general
