One of my fondest childhood memories is celebrating AmtBeal in Addis. I loved not only the calendar holidays, but also birthdays and weddings. The feeling created by people coming together, the food, the musiqa, has left nostalgia in my heart that will never be forgotten.
I often remember this feeling when opening a Coka tehrMuse; right before the Doro Wot is served!
Even yet’eb’er’za Coka had its satisfaction. Whether mixed with water or not I didn’t care!! For a long time after coming to the states I still used to water down my Coke.
There is the reason why the Addis Ababa Classic is our most popular selling shirt. I can only conclude you all share my affection for Addisaba.
It says “Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia” on my passport! Ye’Piassa lij negn. I is Arada!
Sold out of the Addis Ababa Classic…,”
you called, emailed, ask, begged, pleaded, and even threatened. And we thought…what the heck?
RE
Reloaded, Refurbished, Renovated, Restored, Revamaped, beqaaaa every ‘RE’ you can think of, its done Addis Ababa Classic Part II is here!

We took the classic concept and then we “RE” minamined it on American Apparel ringer Tee. We went back to the drawing board on this; we asked what we would do if we had to redesign the Addis Ababa Classic concept from scratch.
We concluded it’s almost perfect, but we would incorporate the Coca Cola Stripe somehow & also make the print larger on the tee. At first we thought about incorporating it on the Addis Ababa motif, but we went to the American Apparel store in DC.
We saw the ringer design for the first time, in blue, if only they made it in red and white it would have been perfect. Well its now a perfect merger, its classic.
With no future a due, the revamped version of the bernos Addis Ababa Classic concept! This and two new concepts, including the bernos Awaze Hot tees will be here before the end of this month.
Podcasted is the orginal version Addis Ababa Bete by Alemayehu Eshete. Enjoy!

Ladies’ motivation in buying the Tee-? hmm..
-loving the Tee & supporting Bernos & beating memories thru it as Celeb said. I got no skeptics there.
as for the Dudes (includes me don’t worry Chelema “dog” )
..hmmm.. if sincerity were to be gulped down or matter-of-fact were to be fississs… ..then it is the marketer who leans on her Chocolate grace to cause our tiny heart to be FindeQeDiQ with the best of Alemayehu Eshete. .. as a result, I, for one, won’t order. I won’t give in for that trick and be fooled by a piazzza girl ..
how can that be ..unthinkable!
it was all humor! Good work!
Yemi…
shipping to China wont be a problem. As Nolawi mentioned, send me an email with the size you want and you will have it in no time.
Meronisha, you should write more often on the blog. Your descriptions are really beautiful.
Having said that, I’ve been waiting for the return of this shirt and will definitely order.
Thank you Bernesoch!
Honestly i don’t like the shirt. Just keeping it real.
First of it has nothing that belongs to addis. The whole thing reminds me of Coke. I don’t see anything that resembles Addis. My eyes just see an imitation of Coke brand only spelling difference.
I think that is the point of this tshirt, to imitate the branding of the coke. That is probably why you see ok.
Semegn, if you stop memegnetun and be ready to have your pocket $1600 lighter, you might just see Addis
semegn–it does resemble the coke logo…hence the article describing how everything about coke reminds me of addis! i dont know if you grew up in addis…but for a child that grew up in addis…coca cola, desta keremela, and jelati are things that instantly remind you of home. at least it is for me.
i remember when i was a kid impatiently waiting for a grownup to open the bottle; even hurting my teeth once when attempting to open the korkey with my teeth because i wanted to be as cool as my cousins.
the smell brings back memories of my friends and me sneaking more coke than we were allowed to drink and eagerly consuming more than we should have.
for me, over time coca cola and addis ababa have become synonymous with each other. of course there were other drinks, but none as good. not even the citrus taste of mirinda reminds of addisba as much as a coke. it is simply a classic combination…
again, thanks all of you for the article compliments, but i cant take credit for the “re re” idea…that was all nolawi…for everything else i accept with a gleaming smile
Meru,
Kemirr geen coca cola and Addis ababa have become synonymous for you?…hehehe…Abet mAgAnen! The T-shirt is beTam arif..i give you that…ye-synonymousun neger geen….hehehe
great article, great shirt. i also want one
wudiye kemirr elyshalew…coke really reminds me of addis!

Nice article and nice T.But I prefer to write Addis Abeba (with an ‘e’ instead on an ‘a’ ) like we Ethios pronounce it.I do not understand why we have to spell it to suit others.Think about it!!

that is the official spelling as far as I know. What we did was look at the spelling of Addis Ababa University!
think about it if the oldest higher education institution in Ethiopia spells it Ababa! we should follow suit.
Thanks Nolawi,
You are right——but what I am saying is that is not the correct way to spell Addis Abeba——–besides,it does not heart to be more creative and unique while we are in such kind of business—–I guess what we do have to be unique and catchy!!——–Indoing so we might have to do the un offical——.
if its the official wouldn’t that make it correct.
if its the official wouldn’t that make it correct.
I am no sure if the correct word for this is “official”——-but, the way I see it, somebody at some point started to write it that way and we have been spelling it that way since then. We have also to remember language always changes. We all know the English language that we currently use is different from that of Shakespearian era English. We also know there are a number of English words that are spelt differently in America from that of England or Europe. All this is an indication that people always try to change how they write and speak a language like they do to other things.
If that is so , what is wrong if we start to spell Addis Abeba the right way. I guess we agree there is a meaning difference b/n “Abeba” and “Ababa”————–.
Please do understand I am not trying to lecture about languages——rather, I am trying to express my preference.
SitTa
SitTa – very interesting view you have…i suppose we never really thought of that.
sitTa, the correct and official way is the right way. but if you prefer it differently it your prerogative.
the correct way is the right way which is the official way, the way addis ababa has been spelt officially for over hundred years… the way Bahru Zewde spells it in his books.
but lets leave it as your preference…
Nolawi, It’s true that Addis Ababa isspelled the correct way on the shirts. It seems that this confusion is a never ending one. Several people have a hard time spelling it correctly. I myself spell it both ways on official documents. As far as I know it has always been Addis Ababa sometimes spelled “Addis Abeba”. Sometimes too much creativity can back fire. Excellent shirt!
i like the shirt, and can’t wait to wear it and show off. by the way meron, you look a bit like tyra banks (i mean your face),… also nice smile.
smile
thanks dawitm…
